Director Edgar Wright — known for his kinetic style, godly transition and razor-sharp humor in films like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, and Baby Driver — is returning with a fresh take on The Running Man, and the first trailer just dropped.
Based on the original story by none other than Stephen King (writing under the pseudonym Richard Bachman), The Running Man is set in a dystopian future where a deadly game show turns regular contestants into prey for elite killers. Think cat-and-mouse, but televised — and with a lot more explosions.
The screenplay is written by Michael Bacall, a frequent collaborator of Wright’s, whose past credits include Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Project X, and 21 & 22 Jump Street.
It stacked with stars Glen Powell (Twisters), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Lee Pace (The Hobbit), Colman Domingo (Rustin) and Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs The World)
This isn’t The Running Man’s first time on the big screen. The original adaptation, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, hit theaters in 1987, just five years after the novel’s release.
The Running Man will dash into theaters on November 7, 2025.
